Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Government all set to sanction 1.12 crore PMAY homes by next month

April 24, 2020

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana News Update

If you had applied for your dream pucca home under the ambitious scheme of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), there is good news!

The Government of India is all set to sanction the entire 1.12 crores houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme by March or so.

This information was shared by Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister in Rajya Sabha in February 2020.

“We had earlier made an assessment of the revised demand, and now it stands at 1.12 crores of houses. I am sure of meeting this target if you talk about their sanctioning in the next month or so. “Hardeep Singh Puri, while responding during the Question Hour in the Upper House (Rajya Sabha), was quipped as saying.

He further stated that the initial demand was only to approve and build 1 crore houses by 2022. But going by the demands that the Government received, it reassessed the same and will now be sanctioning 1.12 crore homes by March or so.

As things stand today, 32 lakh houses have already been handed over to concerned beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme.

On the other hand, about 60 lakh units are presently under construction. Such units are expected to be completed in the next 12-18 months.

The figure for handing over of houses is expected to go up as 60 lakh houses are nearing their completion.

It is indeed great news for applicants who have been waiting for 5 years to move into their very own houses.

For the unfamiliar, the Central Government, led by PM Narendra Modi, has been implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY Urban) and PMAY Gramin.

These flagship projects of the Government were announced in June 2015 and April 2016 for suitable recipients in their particular domains of intervention.
